Description

Feel the thrill of swimming with a whale shark, the excitement of spearing the invasive lionfish, and the satisfaction of helping the marine environment. These trips are a unique opportunity to protect the reef ecosystem by directly participating in ongoing marine conservation projects. Learn to dive or further your dive qualifications; everyone contributes regardless of their experience. Rise with the sun and after a cup of coffee, fresh fruit, and a biscuit or two - go diving. There is no better way to start the day and work up a healthy appetite for a scrumptious Belizean breakfast that awaits your return. Dive 2 of the day is mid-morning which allows time for some conservation and PADI dive training or just a swing in a hammock in the cool Caribbean breeze with a good book. Most dive sites are only 10 minutes from the island so after dive 2, head back for a filling and delicious lunch. Dive 3 is midafternoon and whenever possible, weather permitting, a night dive will be offered ( at least 1 night dive a week). Watching the sunset over the sea with a local beer or rum punch rounds off the day, with a lovely dinner and some good chat from interesting like-minded people. Everyone who loves diving is catered for regardless of age or gender. Guests to date have ranged from 3 yrs old to 83 yrs old with lots in between. You just need to be active, interested in the ocean, and meeting new people. Families, couples, and the individual traveler are all welcomed. In terms of the marine conservation diving done, each day will differ but you could be helping in the following areas: • Lionfish population monitoring and control – Spear Lionfish! • Queen Conch surveys • Lobster surveys • Commercial fish surveys • Reef health surveys – ReefCI check & coral watch • Whale shark monitoring • Coral reef bio-diversity Trips on the weekends to the jaguar sanctuary, jungle, caves, waterfalls, ziplining/rappelling, Mayan ruins, etc. can be arranged.
